DISCUSSION OF THE GYPSY PROBLEM IN GREAT BRITAIN, INCLUDING POPULATION, EMPLOYMENT, LIFESTYLE AND EDUCATION.
Abstract
THE ATTITUDES AND PREJUDICES TOWARD GYPSIES ARE ALSO EXPLORED. VARIOUS LEGISLATIVE ACTS DEALING WITH THE GYPSIES AND THE GYPSY PROBLEM ARE ALSO MENTIONED. THE AUTHOR STRESSES THE NEED TO PROVIDE A NETWORK OF SUPERVISED SITES THAT WOULD BE ADEQUATE FOR THE NUMBER OF FAMILIES INVOLVED. HE ALSO ADVOCATES SETTING UP A PROGRAM OF TRAINING AT INTERMEDIATE RESETTLEMENT CENTERS WHICH WOULD HELP THOSE GYPSY FAMILIES WHO SO DESIRED TO BECOME INTEGRATED INTO A SETTLED COMMUNITY. ALSO SUGGESTED IS A CONCERTED EFFORT IN EDUCATION IN ORDER TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF LITERACY AMONG THE GYPSIES, AND THEREFORE THE LEVEL OF EMPLOYMENT.
