Abstract
THE TREATISE WAS COMPILED BY TWO PROFESSORS AT THE FRENCH NATIONAL HIGHER POLICE ACADEMY. DETAILED DEFINITIONS WITH RELEVANT CITATIONS OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS ARE PRESENTED REGARDING ALL FRENCH POLICE ORGANIZATIONS WHICH CARRY OUT CRIMINAL POLICE ACTIVITIES AS OPPOSED TO ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF ORDER. ALSO DEFINED ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF MAGISTRATES, PROSECUTORS, EXAMINING MAGISTRATES, AND ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS INSOFAR AS THEY CONCERN CRIMINAL POLICE FUNCTIONS. ALSO DEFINED ARE THE FUNCTIONS AND LIMITATIONS OF EACH GRADE LEVEL OF POLICE OFFICER. THE TEXT TREATS REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES FOR POLICE OPERATIONS INCLUDING ARREST, DETENTION, JURISDICTION, PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION, GATHERING EVIDENCE, SEARCH AND SEIZURE, WARRENTS, AND JUVENILE OPERATIONS. A SECTION OF THE TEXT CONTAINS SAMPLE COPIES OF ALL FORMS USED FOR POLICE REPORTS. ALSO PROVIDED ARE DETAILED SEQUENCES OF PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE POLICE IN PURSUING EXAMPLE CASES INVOLVING MURDER, MURDER AND ROBBERY, BURGLARY, MORALS OFFENSES, ARSON, FRAUD, AND TRAFFIC OFFENSES.
