This study investigates whether there is unity in underlying principles of terrorism and whether practical conduct of terrorist acts adheres to the principles, based on classifications of the writings of speeches of 12 advocates of political violence.
Abstract
The 12 men selected were Yassir Arafat, Mikhail Bakunin, Frantz Fanon, Che Guevara, Abraham Guillen, Karl Heinzen, Adolph Hitler, Mao Tse-Tung, Herbert Marcuse, Carlos Marighella, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Leon Trotsky. Their public utterances were collated under five levels of principle classified as moral justification, ideology, objective, technique, and personal characteristics. The study also assesses the tenets of terrorism via analysis of terrorist bombing incidents from January 1930 to June 1931 and from 1978 to 1979. Appendixes include worksheets, letters, reference notes, over 100 references, and study data.
