REPORT OF RESEARCH RESULTS PERTAINING TO A WAY OF MODELING CERTAIN SPATIALLY DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS USED IN EMERGENCY SERVICES OF POLICE, AMBULANCE, AND FIRE CONTROL.
Abstract
THE REPORT PRESENTS A MATHEMATICAL PROCEDURE FOR COMPUTING ALL OF THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF AN URBAN EMERGENCY SERVICE SYSTEM. TO ILLUSTRATE THE PROCEDURE, A SIMPLE 3-SERVER EXAMPLE IS WORKED OUT IN DETAIL. THE CALCULATIONS ARE CONSIDERED OFTEN SIMPLE ENOUGH TO BE CARRIED OUT BY HAND WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF AN ELECTRONIC CALCULATOR. THE REPORT CONCLUDES WITH A GENERAL DISCUSSION OF THE OBSERVED ERROR CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SYSTEM. APPENDIX A CONTAINS MATHEMATICAL DETAILS RELATED TO SAMPLING SERVERS. TO ASSIST IN HAND CALCULATIONS, APPENDIX B CONTAINS TABLES OF THE VALUES OF THE CONSTANT OF PROPORTIONALITY DERIVED IN THE FIRST APPENDIX.
