The study gathered preliminary data defining the use patterns of exogenous female hormones by men entering the New York City Correctional Institute for Men at Riker's Island.
Abstract
Questionnaires were administered to 27 men entering the facility from May to December 1979, and a brief physical examination of secondary sex characteristics was performed. Most of the subjects were well-feminized, were obtaining their medication from a physician, and had been taking hormones for more than a year. The black subjects had lower then expected blood pressure. The article discusses the currently known adverse effects of estrogen administration in human males and the relative risks and benefits of estrogen therapy in men. Study data, three notes, and about 70 references are supplied. (Author abstract modified)
