The purpose of this study was to test the use of gentian violet, Sticky-side Powder, and Wetwop following the application of Un-du to separate adhesive materials.
Abstract
Test results indicate that Un-du is effective in separating the tape so that it can be processed for fingerprints. Adhesive materials such as tape, labels, and stamps are some common items submitted to forensic laboratories for latent print development. Removing adhesives from a surface or separating two surfaces that are adhered together with an adhesive is sometimes necessary prior to processing the item. Tests were conducted to determine the effectiveness of Un-du in removing adhesive materials from paper backing and in allowing the separation of items attached with an adhesive and to make a comparison of the latent development between Wetwop, Sticky-side Powder, and gentian violet after applying Un-du.
