Abstract
THE TYPES OF VICTIMS ARE THE HOSTAGES, THE PARTIES WHICH FULFILL THE POLITICAL OR FINANCIAL DEMANDS OF THE OFFENDERS, AND THE STATE WHOSE POPULATION SUFFERS A DIMINISHED SENSE OF SECURITY AND ORDER. THE AUTHOR ASSERTS THAT A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF CASES OF TAKING HOSTAGES HAS ACCUMULATED TO ENABLE THE POLICE TO MAKE RELIABLE GENERALIZATIONS AND PREDICTIONS ABOUT FUTURE CASES. --IN GERMAN
