This article reviews the evolution of video surveillance and the move towards video security systems.
Abstract
Today, video surveillance has evolved into the comprehensive concept known as video security. Video security systems are end-to-end high-speed network architectures that deliver expanded and enhanced video-based functionalities driven by highly sophisticated technology tools. There are three major functionalities of video security enabling users to capture and transport, manage and correlate, and deploy and act. Video surveillance has been a powerful productive tool in the public safety and public services arenas for more than a quarter century. However, the new video security systems are driven by bold new ways of thinking. Advanced video technologies have transformed simple video surveillance to more preemptive, more proactive and more intelligent video security solutions.
