Annotation

The relationship between violence and other offense types was studied based on a random sample of all police-recorded offenders in Denmark and their criminal careers over a 13-year period.

Abstract

It was found that relatively few offenders committed more than one violent offense and that specialization in violence was extremely rare. On the other hand, most violent offenders had long and extensive criminal careers. Violence was more related to a high individual crime rate in general than to a specific violent propensity. The author concludes that reducing the risk of developing a criminal career is important in violence prevention. 13 notes, 3 tables, and 3 figures
