RULES PROMULGATED BY VIRGINIA'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES COMMISSION ARE PRESENTED. THEY REGULATE COMPULSORY INSERVICE TRAINING STANDARDS FOR FULL-TIME LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
Abstract
THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS ARE MANDATORY STUDY MATERIAL DURING THE 8 HOURS OF TRAINING: SELECTED ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, LAWS OF ARREST, JUVENILE LAWS, SEARCHES AND SEIZURES, AND RULES OF EVIDENCE. OFFICERS ARE REQUIRED TWICE EVERY 24 MONTHS TO UNDERTAKE THE FIREARMS COURSE, USING THE HIGHEST SCORE AS THE RECORD. THE THREE PHASES OF THE MODIFIED DOUBLE-ACTION COURSE ARE DESCRIBED ALONG WITH SCORING RULES. ALL INSERVICE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN 180 DAYS OF INCEPTION OF TRAINING, INCLUDING FIRING RANGE QUALIFICATION. JOB-RELATED COURSES TAKEN AT OTHER COMMISSION-APPROVED SCHOOLS MAY BE AUTHORIZED BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ATTENDING AN APPROVED SCHOOL MUST COMPLY WITH THE RULES AND REGULATIONS PROMULGATED BY THE COMMISSION. REPORTS WILL BE REQUIRED FROM THE SCHOOL DIRECTOR OR THE CHIEF OF POLICE OR SHERIFF ON FORMS PROVIDED OR APPROVED BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. (WJR)
