The 1997 annual report on the Virginia judiciary covers court system activities, court caseloads, judicial policymaking bodies, judges and their terms, and judicial personnel and salaries, and also presents financial statistics on circuit and district courts.
Abstract
The report includes organizational charts of the Virginia judicial system and the court structure. Court system activities during 1997 are reviewed with respect to the judiciary's strategic plan, dispute resolution services, newly created judgeships, the awards recognition program, technology in the courts, indigent defense services, involuntary mental commitments, medical malpractice review panels, and the use of substitute and retired judges in district courts. Court system activities are also summarized for the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, circuit and district courts, and magistrates. Caseload statistics are tabulated, and judicial policymaking bodies and judicial personnel, salary, and classification plans are described.
