THIS PROGRAM PAIRS AN ADULT MALE VOLUNTEER WITH AN INMATE WHO ANTICIPATES RELEASE WITHIN SIX MONTHS AND INVOLVES WEEKLY MEETINGS BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER RELEASE.
Abstract
GUIDED BY SOCIAL WORKERS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS, BUSINESSMEN MAKE FRIENDS WITH CERTAIN INMATES OF A MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON, ARRANGE FOR THEIR PRE-RELEASE AND THEN HELP THEM THROUGH THE DIFFICULT FIRST SIX TO NINE MONTHS OF FREEDOM. THE RECIDIVISM RATE WAS CUT FROM 70 PERCENT TO 10 PERCENT.
