PHILADELPHIA CENTER PROVIDES THERAPEUTIC CARE AND SUPERVISION FOR UNWANTED DEPENDENTS AND DELINQUENT TEENAGERS WITHOUT SERIOUS CRIMINAL RECORDS.
Abstract
WALTON VILLAGE WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE TEENAGE DELINQUENTS WITH A HOME ATMOSPHERE AND TO RETURN THEM EVENTUALLY TO THE PUBLIC COMMUNITY. THE THIRTY BOYS, AGED 15 TO 18, HAVE THE SAME PRIVILEGES THEY WOULD HAVE IN A GOOD PRIVATE HOME. ALL ATTEND SCHOOL OR HOLD FULL TIME EMPLOYMENT, AND PARTICIPATE IN THE RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF THE REGULAR YMCA YOUTH PROGRAM. THE CENTER OFFERS SOCIAL, VOCATIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING, AS WELL AS GUIDED GROUP SESSIONS DESIGNED TO HELP THE BOYS DEVELOP NEW WAYS FOR COPING WITH THEIR PROBLEMS. WHEN A BOY HAS RECEIVED MAXIMUM BENEFIT FROM RESIDENCE AT WALTON VILLAGE, HE IS PLACED BY THE ORIGINAL AGENCY. SOME BOYS ARE REFERRED TO ROTARY VILLAGE WHERE THEY ENJOY A MORE INDEPENDENT LIVING EXPERIENCE. THIS IS AN INTERIM PERIOD BEFORE DISCHARGE TO THE COMMUNITY.
