EXAMINATION OF THE ESCAPES FROM WASHINGTON STATE ADULT CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES DURING THE FISCAL YEARS 1967 THROUGH 1970.
Abstract
THOSE VARIABLES WHICH APPEAR SIGNIFICANTLY RELATED TO ESCAPE BEHAVIOR ARE IDENTIFIED AS INCLUDING - ONE OR MORE PRIOR CONFINEMENTS, OFFENSES AGAINST PROPERTY, NON-USE OF NARCOTIC DRUGS, EXCESSIVE USE OF ALCOHOL, NON-BLACK RACIAL CLASSIFICATION, PRIOR ESCAPE RECORD, AND OTHERS. THESE VARIABLES ARE INTEGRATED TO PRESENT A PROFILE OF THE PERSON WHO ESCAPED AS IT VARIES FROM THE PROFILE OF THE PERSON WHO DID NOT ESCAPE. THE SAME VARIABLES ARE USED AS A BASIS FOR ESTABLISHING POSSIBLE CRITERIA FOR LIMITING THE NUMBER OF ESCAPE ATTEMPTS. STATISTICAL TABLES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
