OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION, FACILITIES, PROGRAMS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FEDERAL INVESTIGATIVE, TECHNICAL, RESEARCH, AND COMMUNICATIONS CENTER IN WEST GERMANY'S FEDERALIZED POLICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
MOST POLICE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED BY STATE (LAND) AND LOCAL AGENCIES. THE FEDERAL CRIMINAL POLICE BUREAU (BKA) SERVES AS A NATIONAL COORDINATION CENTER FOR POLICE OPERATIONS WHICH BY THEIR NATURE REQUIRE AN ORGANIZATION ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL. BKA ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A NATIONAL POLICE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM, A FEDERAL POLICE RECORDS SYSTEM, A FEDERAL POLICE CRIME LAB, AND A FEDERAL CRIMINALISTICS RESEARCH CENTER. IN ADDITION TO ASSISTING STATE AND LOCAL POLICE OPERATIONS ON REQUEST, THE BKA HAS JURISDICTION IN INTERNATIONALLY ORGANIZED CRIMES INVOLVING WEAPONS, MUNITIONS, EXPLOSIVES, NARCOTICS, AND COUNTERFEITING. THE BKA ALSO PROVIDES POLICE SECURITY FOR FEDERAL EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATIVE, AND JUDICIAL OFFICERS AND FOREIGN GUESTS OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. --IN GERMAN
