This report from the United Nations Economic and Social Council discusses the work of the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute.
Abstract
In 1968, the United Nations Economic and Social Council established the Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute to assist intergovernmental, governmental, and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. This report from the Board of Trustees of the Institute discusses the work performed by the Institute in six thematic areas. These areas are 1) countering the threat of organized crime to security and development; 2) increasing the efficiency of criminal justice systems and protection of vulnerable groups; 3) promoting international criminal law and practice; 4) sharing best practices, building capacity to promote human rights, and improving access to services; 5) security governance and countering the appeal of terrorism; and 6) training and advanced education - building capacity in crime prevention and criminal justice. The final section of the report discusses risk assessment and management of the Institute.
