A TECHNIQUE FOR TRACKING THE MOTION OF A RANDOMLY MOVING VEHICLE WITH THE AID OF ELECTRONIC SIGNPOSTS DEPLOYED THROUGHOUT A HEAVILY BUILT-UP URBAN AREA IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE SIGNPOST SYSTEM IS (ACCORDING TO THE AUTHORS) ALMOST CERTAINLY THE SIMPLEST AND CHEAPEST AUTOMATIC VEHICLE LOCATOR FOR FIXED-ROUTE SYSTEMS, SUCH AS BUSES. SIGNPOST EMPLACEMENT, DATA RATES, MUTUAL INTERFERENCE BETWEEN SIGNPOST ELEMENTS AND OTHER SYSTEM PARAMETERS ARE DESCRIBED. THE RESULTS OF SPECIFIC FIELD TESTS IN THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA PERFORMED UNDER CONTRACT TO DOT ARE HIGHLIGHTED AND A COMPARISON WITH OTHER VEHICLE LOCATION TECHNIQUES IS MADE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
