Abstract
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE FREQUENTLY AMBIVALENT ABOUT SUBMITTING TO THE DIRECTION OF ADULTS. ONE WAY OF DETERMINING WHEN THE TIME IS RIPE FOR ADULT INTERVENTION IS TO ENCOURAGE EXPRESSIONS OF NEEDS BY THE YOUNG AND THEIR PARTICIPATION, AS FAR AS THEY ARE ABLE, IN THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS.
