Drug Use Impact on Native People in Minnesota

This presentation will review substance use disorder treatment admissions and impacts on Native people residing in Minnesota. Special attention will be paid to the geographic areas of the state impacted and specific illegal substances prominent among Native people in Minnesota using both treatment admission and overdose data. While displaying data, the presentation will focus on specific population incongruencies with two main illegal substances, heroin and methamphetamine. State/Tribal policies related to Native substance use disorder treatment programs will also be discussed.

  • Attendees will understand geographic influences where reservation and county boundaries impact each other.
  • Attendees will be able to name the two primary illegal substances with greatest impact on Native people in Minnesota.
