Abstract
SOME OF THE MEASURES CONSIDERED INVOLVING JUDICIAL SENTENCING DISCRETION INCLUDE PARDON, SUSPENDED SENTENCES WITH OR WITHOUT PROBATION AND FINES, PROBATION, COURT DIVERSION, COMMUTATION OF PRISON ENTENCES TO FINES, AND DISCRETIONARY NON-EXECUTION OF SHORT-TERM PRISON SENTENCES. OTHER COMMUNITY BASED ALTERNATIVES TO IMPRISONMENT DISCUSSED ARE HALFWAY HOUSES, WORK RELEASE, WEEKEND DETENTION, AND CONDITIONAL RELEASE OR PAROLE. INNOVATIVE PROBATION CONDITIONS, SUCH AS RESTITUTION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, ARE ALSO MENTIONED. --IN FRENCH
