This directory presents national summary data and individual background information and statistics about the locations, inmate populations, admissions, releases, inmate programs correctional personnel, and operating and capital expenditures for the jails and detention centers in each State in the United States.
Abstract
When data were not available for 1992, information gathered by the Bureau of Justice Statistics for 1988 is presented. Statewide summaries precede each State's listing and give an overview of the State's county jails and detention centers. Symbols are used for each directory listing to indicate the size of the jail. Individual listings include the name, address, administrator, telephone number, accreditation by the American Correctional Association, rated capacity, population, admissions, year constructed, and anticipated changes such as construction or closing. The listings also include the total number of staff, breakdown by gender, male and female correctional officers, operating expenditures, salary totals, other expenditures, capital expenditures, numbers of inmates in daily work release programs, numbers in a typical weekend sentence programs, numbers in other alternative programs, and notes on court orders or other information. Charts and information about the American Correctional Association and its affiliates
