TECHNICAL DISCUSSION QUESTIONING THE FEASIBILITY OF ESTABLISHING IN THE U.S. A COMMON STANDARD REQUIRING A CERTAIN NUMBER OF POINTS FOR AN IDENTIFICATION.
Abstract
ALTHOUGH A STANDARD NUMBER OF POINTS NECESSARY FOR POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED, THE FBI INDICATES THAT TWELVE RIDGE CHARACTERISTICS WHICH CORRESPOND IN SHAPE AND RELATIONSHIP ARE AMPLE IN ANY CASE TO IDENTIFY AN INDIVIDUAL. THE FUNCTION OF AN ABSOLUTE STANDARD AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF ITS IMPLEMENTATION ARE DISCUSSED. ILLUSTRATIONS OF BASIC RIDGE CHARACTERICS, UNUSUAL RIDGE FORMATIONS, AND THE RELATIONSHIP OF CHARACTERISTICS ARE INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
