THE NATURE OF ATTITUDES, HOW THEY ARE FORMED, HOW THEY AFFECT INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR, AND HOW THEY INFLUENCE THE PERFORMANCE OF POLICE DUTIES.
Abstract
AFTER CITING EVERYDAY EXAMPLES OF THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTITUDES, THE AUTHOR PRESENTS FIVE GUIDELINES FOR POLICEMEN TO FOLLOW IN MAINTAINING A PROFESSIONAL AND OBJECTIVE APPROACH TO THEIR WORK. FOR EXAMPLE, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT BY SHOWING THAT THERE IS NOTHING PERSONAL IN HIS ACTIONS, THE OFFICER WILL BE ABLE TO FOCUS THE HOSTILITY OF THE PEOPLE ON THE SYSTEM RATHER THAN ON HIMSELF.
