Abstract
LAW ENFORCEMENT AND VISTOR PROTECTION SERVICES IN PARK AND RECREATION AREAS SUPPORT AND ENHANCE VISTORS' RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES. THIS INVOLVES IMPROVING FACILITY DESIGN AND LANDSCAPING FOR BETTER ACCESS, VISIBILITY, AND SURVEILLANCE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT WHILE MAINTAINING NATURAL ESTHETICS AND VISITOR PRIVACY. ATTENTION IS ALSO GIVEN TO DESIGNING EFFECTIVE RANGER, PARK POLICE, AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEMS, WITH EMPHASIS ON MANPOWER AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS, SUPPORT SERVICES, AND TRAINING. THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY CONTAINS MORE THAN 100 CITATIONS TO WORKS IN THE FIELDS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND PERSONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY. BOTH PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SOURCES. MATERIALS ON LITTERING, VANDALISM AND THEFT IS NOTED AS IS MATERIAL ON THE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF FACILITIES AND THE PROVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES. THE ITEMS IN THIS REFLECT A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO THE PROBLEMS OF SAFETY IN RECREATIONAL AND PARK AREAS.
