CHARACTERISTICS AND REFERRAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR JUVENILE CASES PROCESSED AT THE NORTHERN RECEPTION CENTER AND CLINIC.
Abstract
THE AGE RANGE OF YOUTHS PROCESSED WAS FROM 11-18 YEARS, WITH THE MEDIAN AGE FOR MALES BEING 16.5 AND 15.4 FOR FEMALES. THE MAJORITY OF THE CASES WERE CAUCASION - 59 PERCENT - AND FROM THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA COUNTIES 36 PERCENT. THE STATISTICS SHOW THAT THE LARGEST OFFENSE PERCENTAGE FOR FEMALES WAS INCORRIGIBLE AND RUNAWAY, WHILE ASSAULT WAS THE LARGEST FOR MALES. ALSO, THE MEAN LENGTH OF STAY WAS 39 DAYS. TABLE TWO INDICATES THAT THE LARGEST PERCENTAGE OF YOUTHS WERE RECOMMENDED FOR PROBATION IN THEIR OWN HOMES. ADDITIONAL TABLES SHOW THE CLINIC RECOMMENDATION BY YOUTH AUTHORITY STATUS FOR MALES AND FEMALES, AS WELL AS RECOMMENDATIONS AND BASIC CHARACTERISTICS FOR BOTH SEXES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
