PROGRAM UTILIZING A SPECIAL CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM WHICH INCREASES ASSISTANCE TO THE PAROLEE, PROVIDES COMMUNITY PROTECTION, AND REDUCES CORRECTIONAL OPERATING COSTS.
Abstract
THE WORK UNIT PAROLE PROGRAM FEATURES A SYSTEM FOR PAROLEE CLASSIFICATION AND ATTENTION ACCORDING TO SUPERVISION NEEDS. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON MAXIMUM USE OF CASE MANAGEMENT SKILLS, COMMUNITY RESOURCES, AND EFFECTIVE DECISION-MAKING. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM ARE TO INCREASE COMMUNITY PROTECTION, IMPROVE PERFORMANCE OF PAROLEES, AND SAVE INSTITUTIONAL COSTS. SINCE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PROGRAM THERE HAS BEEN A DECLINE IN THE TOTAL PRISON RETURNS FOR NEW CRIMES AND VIOLATION OF PAROLE RULES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
