This article describes the Correctional Drug Abuse Treatment Effectiveness (CDATE) project, which will annotate all evaluation research studies on rehabilitation programs for drug abusing and non-drug abusing offenders conducted since 1968.
          Abstract
The effectiveness of correctional treatment over the past 25 years will be evaluated, with a focus on such issues as nonrehabilitative imprisonment, alternatives for young offenders, and drug abuse among inmates. Using meta-analysis and regression techniques, researchers will examine the range of outcomes for each treatment method and the degree to which independent variables have effected evaluation findings. The policy paper to accompany the final report of this project will emphasize salient findings of treatment outcomes, problems encountered in implementation of correctional programs, distinctions useful for correctional policy formulation, and findings relevant to correctional policy, drug abuse treatment, program implementation, and evaluation. 86 references
