ARGUMENT FOR JOINT ACTION BETWEEN CHANGE-ORIENTED MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AND SENSITIVE POLICE OFFICERS SO AS TO AVOID FURTHER POLARIZATION OVER THE POLICE.
Abstract
MOST POLICE LEADERSHIP IS SEEN AS LACKING THE VISION, PERSPECTIVE, OR MOTIVATION TO DEVELOP A HUMANE, PEOPLEORIENTED PROTECTIVE SERVICE, RATHER THAN MAINTAINING ARCHAIC IDEAS ABOUT CROOK-CATCHING AND GADGETRY. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS INCREASED CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT AND THE ADOPTION OF NEW ORGANIZATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES.
