GOAL ACHIEVEMENT AND CLIENT SATISFACTION ARE ASSESSED FOR THIS PROJECT WHICH ATTEMPTS TO FOSTER NONDELINQUENT MODES OF BEHAVIOR IN YOUTH BY PROVIDING COUNSELING, EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT SERVICES, HEALTH SERVICES, AND RECREATION.
Abstract
THE YOUTH ENABLING PROGRAM (YEP) ALSO ATTEMPTED TO OFFER A POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE FOR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES DEALING WITH YOUTH AND TO PROVIDE A VEHICLE FOR DEALING WITH THE RUNAWAY PROBLEM. AN INTERVIEW SCHEDULE WAS DEVELOPED TO OBTAIN ATTITUDINAL AND OTHER TYPES OF DATA FROM PROGRAM YOUTH. ALSO, AN EXAMINATION OF PROJECT RECORDS WAS MADE. A TOTAL OF 48 YOUTH INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED. AMONG THE AREAS COVERED IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE WERE THE IMPORTANCE OF YEP TO YOUTH. YOUTH PERCEPTION OF EDUCATION, YOUTH PERCEPTIONS OF YOUTH PROGRAMS, HOW YOUTH FELT THEY WERE AFFECTED BY YEP, HOW YOUTH WERE TREATED BY YEP PERSONNEL, QUALITY OF JOB TRAINING AT YEP, AND THE QUALITY OF THE YEP COUNSELING. INTERVIEW RESPONSES FOR EACH TOPIC AREA ARE REPORTED. THE DATA GATHERED DURING THE EVALUATION SUPPORTS THE CONCLUSION THAT THE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES OF PROVIDING ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT, HELP FOR RUNAWAYS, HEALTH EXAMINATIONS, JOB PLACEMENT, BASIC EDUCATION, DRUG INFORMATION AND COUNSELING WERE BEING MET TO A SATISFACTORY DEGREE.
