EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY THE SEATTLE, WASH., POLICE ACADEMY WHICH INVOLVED TRAINEES IN VISITS TO COMMUNITY HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES.
Abstract
WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF FACULTY REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON. SEATTLE UNIVERSITY, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND, A COMMUNITY RELATIONS CURRICULUM WAS DEVELOPED WHICH INCLUDED 160 HOURS OF SPECIALIZED TRAINING IN HUMANITIES, HUMAN RESOURCES, PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIOLOGY, AND ATTITUDE AWARENESS. THE BASIC TRAINING ACADEMY WAS EXTENDED FROM THIRTEEN TO TWENTY-ONE WEEKS TO ACCOMMODATE THE COMMUNITY RELATIONS SEGMENT. THE ADDITIONAL EIGHT WEEKS ALSO PROVIDED SOME LATITUDE FOR FIELD EXPERIENCE AND VISITS TO RELATED LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES. AUTHOR ABSTRACT
