This text on community relations concepts, designed primarily to be used as an introductory or survey text for lower division college courses, presents an overview of the various factors that comprise the relationships between the community and the criminal justice system.
Abstract
The text examines basic concepts of human relations, such as contacts between persons and groups. Various community relations scenarios that exist between the community and the criminal justice system are discussed in considerable detail. The text also explores community misunderstandings and the lack of cooperation and mistrust that may paradoxically be generated by the criminal justice system's efforts to make the community a safer place. Chapters specifically cover the meaning and purpose of community relations, the need for interaction between the community and police, community structure and power groups, the judiciary, corrections, minority groups in the community, human relations problems of courts and corrections, human relations problems and police processes, and community relations programming.
