THE MANNER IN WHICH COURSES ARE TAUGHT IN POLICE ACADEMIES IS ALLEGED TO HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS.
Abstract
IT IS THE CONTENTION OF THE AUTHOR THAT THE IMPRESSIONS WHICH RECRUITS FORM ABOUT THEMSELVES, THE COMMUNITY, AND THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THE TWO INTERACT RESULT FROM THE SUBSTANCE AND MANNER OF INSTRUCTION. AS SUCH, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ACADEMIES RETHINK THEIR INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACH AND DEVELOP PROGRAMS TO DEAL WITH THE SOCIAL DYNAMICS OF STRESS AND CONFLICT.
