This publication supplements existing high school social studies courses for the purpose of teaching students to recognize, understand, respect, and obey the laws of society.
Abstract
The work introduces students to criminal laws frequently violated by juveniles and acquaints them with penalties imposed for such misbehavior. The course can be completed in a 16-week semester. The manual addressing the following crimes: loitering and prowling, trespassing, vandalism, highway traffic control, resisting arrest, and carrying concealed weapons. Larceny, burglary, assault and battery, arson, alcohol and drug abuse, robbery, and homicide are also discussed. A question and answer format is employed to focus student attention on one concept at a time. Text material addresses matters of fact as well as student opinion concerning personal and social values. Materials are designed to promote discussion at school and at home, and informal language is employed to explain difficult concepts. A glossary and a student/parent survey are appended. (For the teacher's manual, see NCJ 85848).
