EXPERIMENT MEASURING DEPTH, DURATION, AND VARIATIONS IN TISSUE RESISTANCE DURING PENETRATION OF 140 STAB WOUNDS ADMINISTERED TO 10 CORPSES UNDER STANDARDIZED CONDITIONS.
Abstract
THE EXPERIMENT WAS CARRIED OUT BY FORENSIC MEDICAL EXPERTS AT THE RHEINLAND-WESTFAELISCHE TECHNISCHE HOCHSCHULE (RHINELAND-WESTPHALIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY) IN AACHEN, WEST GERMANY TO DEVELOP A MORE PRECISE METHOD OF DETERMINING THE CIRCUMSTANCES CONNECTED WITH A STAB WOUND. A BREAD KNIFE WAS ATTACHED TO A PENDULUM AND ALLOWED TO FALL THROUGH A 90 DEGREE ANGLE INTO THE SAME AREA OF THE THIGH. A DEVICE ATTACHED TO THE HANDLE OF THE KNIFE MEASURED THE RESISTANCE OF THE TISSUE TO THE BLOW DURING PENETRATION AND TRANSLATED THE VARIATIONS INTO ELECTRICAL IMPULSES WHICH WERE PRINTED ON A GRAPH. THE ARTICLE PROVIDES MAXIMUM, MINIMUM, AND AVERAGE MEASUREMENTS, DATA ON THE SPEED, FORCE, DIMENSIONS OF THE KNIFE, AND ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE GRAPHS AND OF THE DEVICE. --IN GERMAN
