This document presents statistical data regarding the inmates, institutions, budgets, and programs of State and Federal juvenile correctional systems in the United States on January 1, 1993, based on a survey of all these correctional systems.
Abstract
Forty-nine juvenile correctional systems reported 121,805 juveniles in correctional programs run by correction agencies and other organizations. A total of 58,636 were in residential facilities, and 63,169 were in nonresidential programs. The data cover admissions, age and racial composition, types of juvenile commitments, captures, assaults on juveniles, juvenile fatalities, and AIDS in juvenile corrections. Other data cover the numbers and types of juvenile correctional facilities, future beds planned and their costs, budgets, daily costs, contract expenditures, juvenile correctional programs, drug treatment programs, and juvenile correctional personnel.
