Abstract
Several chapters discuss racial inequality in the American criminal justice system, focusing on the disproportionate representation of young black males in official and unofficial crime statistics, and on the macrolevel relationships between race, joblessness, community structure, and crime. Another chapter deals with the social and economic subordination of youth to explain age patterns of delinquency and crime. Three essays deal explicitly with correlations between gender and crime, from both current and historical perspectives. One author assesses the issue of crime, inequality, and justice in Eastern Europe. The final chapters explore technological, environmental, and philosophical aspects of crime and inequality that will affect future crime prevention and control efforts. Chapter references
