USING OFFICIAL POLICE AND COURT STATISTICS, THE AUTHOR ANALYZES TRENDS IN JUVENILE AND ADULT CRIME IN GRENOBLE, AND COMPARES THESE TRENDS TO NATIONAL CRIME TRENDS IN FRANCE.
Abstract
CONSIDERABLE INCREASES IN BOTH JUVENILE AND ADULT CRIME ARE NOTED. IN ADDITION, THE LEVEL OF CRIME IN GRENOBLE IS FOUND TO BE HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE FOR FRANCE. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT THIS MAY BE DUE TO THE HETEROGENEITY OF THE POPULATION (IN 1968, ONLY 21 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION OF GRENOBLE WAS BORN IN THAT AREA); THE RAPID ECONOMIC EXPANSION OF GRENOBLE, WHICH HAS ATTRACTED MANY WORKERS TO THE AREA; AND THE LARGE PERCENTAGE OF YOUTHS IN THE POPULATION (50 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION IS UNDER 30 YEARS OF AGE). --IN FRENCH
