Abstract
The four chapters of Part I focus on the principles and concepts of restorative justice as they discuss the formation and terminology of restorative justice concepts, the parameters of restorative justice, possible bias in defining restorative justice depending on who defines it and how, and whether restorative justice has responded appropriately to retribution theory and impulses. Ten chapters in Part II then discuss stakeholder issues, which pertain to the authors' ideas and concerns about the roles, responsibilities, and possibilities for victims, offenders, and communities within the philosophy and practice of restorative justice. Part III, entitled "Government and Systems," contains four chapters that consider the role of the state in restorative justice programs, how restorative justice addresses human rights and due process issues mandated by the state, the implications of the growing state involvement in restorative justice, and the impact of legislation that addresses restorative justice. The eight chapters of Part IV discuss practice and practitioner issues, such as practice models, influences on practice, and the role of professionals in restorative justice. Part V contains three chapters that discuss the influence of indigenous and religious traditions in the concepts and practice of restorative justice; and the two chapters of Part VI focus on social justice as they consider whether restorative justice challenges systemic injustice and the implications of restorative justice for society. Chapter references and suggested readings and an appended listing of critical issues in restorative justice
