ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM OF HEROIN ADDICTION AND EVALUATION OF HEROIN ADDICT TREATMENT PROGRAMS, SUCH AS METHADONE MAINTENANCE, METHADONE DETOXIFICATION, AND RESIDENTIAL THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES.
Abstract
THE STUDY EVALUATES PRIMARILY THE PERFORMANCE OF FIVE DADE COUNTY PROGRAMS IN THE PERIOD BETWEEN AUGUST 1969 AND THE TIME THE STUDY TEAM STARTED COLLECTING DATA. THE DOCUMENT BEGINS BY ANALYZING THE DADE COUNTY DRUG ADDICTION PROBLEM AND THEN DESCRIBING THE CURRENT DADE COUNTY DRUG ABUSE CONTROL SYSTEM. SUMMARIES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR THE METHADONE PROGRAMS AND THE RESIDENTIAL THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES. COMMENTS ARE THEN MADE ON ALTERNATIVES FOR TREATMENT OF ADDICTS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, FOLLOWED BY PLANNING, EVALUATION AND COORDINATION AND ANALYSES OF OPTIONS AND EXPANDING THE DRUG TREATMENT SYSTEM.
