Abstract
The first excerpt uses news clips and interviews with security personnel to portray the prevalence and nature of violence in the workplace. The second excerpt focuses on "victims and losses," which pertains to the various types of workplace violence and threats of violence, including assaults, threats, and harassment. Victim and witness psychological impacts are also discussed by psychologists and personnel counselors. The third excerpt profiles perpetrators of workplace violence. Perpetrators mentioned include irate customers, disgruntled employees, stalkers, and random violence. A fourth excerpt considers what employees can do to help prevent violence in the workplace. This excerpt includes dramatizations and comments by security and personnel professionals regarding steps employees can take to increase their own and the safety of others while at the workplace. Remaining excerpts focus on what employers, supervisors, and security and law enforcement personnel can do to respond to and prevent violence in the workplace.
