A PROGRAM TO AID PROBATIONERS IN LOS ANGELOS COUNTY ADJUST TO THE COMMUNITY AFTER THEY HAVE RETURNED FROM COUNTY DETENTION CAMPS FOR JUVENILES.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM ENTAILS COOPERATION BETWEEN COUNTY PROBATION OFFICERS, AN AFTERCARE UNIT TEACHER AND SUPERVISOR, AND THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. PROBATIONERS WHO ARE STILL ATTENDING PUBLIC SCHOOL RECEIVE TUTORING IN SPECIAL PROBLEM AREAS. PROBATIONERS WHO ARE OVER AGE 16 AND ARE NOT ATTENDING SCHOOL RECEIVE PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION IN MATHEMATICS AND LANGUAGE SKILLS WHICH WILL AID THEM IN VOCATIONAL PURSUITS AND IN FUNCTIONING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.
