Abstract
VOLUNTARY DRUNKENNESS, NOT AMOUNTING TO LEGAL INSANITY, WHETHER CAUSED BY LIQUOR OR DRUGS, IS GENERALLY NOT A DEFENSE FOR AN OFFENSE COMMITTED WHILE IN THAT CONDITION. RATIONALES WHICH HAVE SUPPORTED THIS RULE AND RESEARCH ON THE EFFECTS OF DRUGS WHICH HAVE A BEARING ON ITS BASIS ARE REVIEWED. THE PROBLEM IS TO SEPARATE TRUE MENTAL INCAPACITY FROM MORAL IRRESPONSIBILITY.
