A BRIEF HISTORY OF EXPLOSIVES AND ORDINANCE DISPOSAL IS FURNISHED TO INITIALLY ORIENT THE READER. THE NATURE AND TYPES OF EXPLOSIVES AND EXPLOSIONS ARE DETAILED. VARIOUS BLASTING SUPPLIES AND THEIR METHODS OF USE ARE EXPLAINED ALONG WITH DESCRIPTIONS OF COMMERCIAL AND IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVES AND THEIR EFFECTS. COMPLETE CHAPTERS ARE DEVOTED TO BOTH INCENDIARIES AND MILITARY MUNITIONS THAT MIGHT BE USED ILLEGALLY. THE AUTHOR CONSIDERS GROUPS WHICH MAY EMPLOY IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES IN A CRIMINAL MANNER AND LISTS POSSIBLE SOURCES OF MATERIALS AND TARGETS. APPROACHES TO RENDERING SUSPECTED DEVICES SAFE ARE OUTLINED AND GUIDELINES FOR SAFETY DISTANCES AND EVACUATION PROCEDURES ARE GIVEN. SUGGESTIONS FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF A BOMB SQUAD ARE PROVIDED.
