MEDICAL CASE HISTORIES CONCERNING THE ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OF METHADONE BY CHILDREN, AGED 15 MONTHS TO 5 YEARS.
Abstract
INCLUDED IS A DISCUSSION OF TREATMENT MEASURES FOR METHADONE POISONING AND A REVIEW OF THE USE OF METHADONE AS A MAINTENANCE DRUG. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THE EMERGENCY ROOM PHYSICIAN MUST BE AWARE OF METHADONE POISONINGS AS A CLINICAL ENTITY. ALSO, DRUG ADDICTS ON METHADONE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS MUST BE INSTRUCTED TO KEEP TABLETS IN A CONTAINER INACCESSIBLE TO CHILDREN AND TO USE A METHADONE SOLUTION IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT IS PREPARED.
