Abstract
This April 2012 issue of the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin contains four primary articles dealing with issues of importance to police investigations. The first article, The Next Worst Thing, discusses two law enforcement functions that comprise crucial intelligence techniques: gathering and analyzing indicators and warnings. The second article, Focus on Searches: Characteristics and Implications of Diversion Safes, discusses the use of diversion safes, common household items used as hiding places, by criminals. The third article, Changing Police Subculture, discusses the impact that occupational and mental anguish among police officers has on the law enforcement subculture. The fourth article, Money Laundering and Asset Forfeiture, discusses modern techniques employed by criminals to launder their profits, and techniques that investigators can use to locate and seize those proceeds. Additional articles also discuss the importance of providing mentoring and support to officers working on child pornography cases, as well as alternative highway flares that use chemical or electric sources of energy as opposed to traditional magnesium-based flares.
