This article discusses the European States’ strategies and initiatives in fighting crime and the demand for new forms of international cooperation.
Abstract
In the fight against economic crime, European States have a growing awareness that economic crime, influences the rise of organized crime and that combating money laundering is one of the most effective means in the fight against organized crime. Problems encountered in fighting economic crime include a direct need for enhanced financial investigations and the need for improvement of international judicial cooperation in criminal matters. In the fight against money laundering, high priority should be given to: offshore centers; money and the Internet; tracing, freezing, seizure and confiscation of assets; and the criminalization of money laundering.
