AN ALTERNATIVE TO INSTITUTIONALIZATION, USING SCIOTO VILLAGE IN OHIO AS A CASE EXAMPLE.
Abstract
INSTITUTIONAL PLACEMENT CAN DISTORT PSYCHOSEXUAL DEVELOPMENT OR STIGMATIZE A CHILD IN THE EYES OF THE COMMUNITY. ATTEMPTS TO OVERCOME INSTITUTIONAL LIMITATIONS INCLUDE FOSTER HOMES SUPPORTED BY PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, TRAINING COURSES FOR FOSTER PARENTS, AND STATE SUBSIDIZED FOSTER CARE PROGRAMS.
