COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECT IN ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, AIMED AT COUNSELING MISDEMEANANTS BEFORE AND AFTER RELEASE FROM A COUNTY WORKHOUSE.
Abstract
TWO IMPORTANT COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM WERE INCLUDING EX-OFFENDER PARAPROFESSIONALS, AND INVOLVING WOMEN IN THE DIRECT TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION. THE PROGRAM PROVIDED EVIDENCE THAT EX-OFFENDERS MAKE VOLUNTARY USE OF COMMUNITY-BASED GROUP COUNSELING AND INTENSIVE INDIVIDUAL SERVICES. THERE ARE INDICATIONS THAT SUCH GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT SERVICES CONTRIBUTE TO A DECREASE IN THE NUMBER OF SUBSEQUENT OFFENSES COMMITTED. (AUTHOR MODIFIED)
