THE BACKGROUND AND DEVELOPMENT OF POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS, CURRENT PROBLEMS, AND SUGGESTED PROBLEM SOLVING APPROACHES.
Abstract
CURRENT ISSUES IN POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS CONCERN MINORITY GROUPS, THE ROLE OF THE POLICE, AND POLICE ORGANIZATIONS. SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS INVOLVE POLICE TRAINING IN COMMUNITY RELATIONS, POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS UNITS, THE ROLE OF MANAGEMENT, THE GENERALIST-SPECIALIST APPROACH, AND CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT. THE MAIN PREMISE OF THE BOOK IS THAT POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS SHOULD NOT BE MERELY A COLLECTION OF ABSTRACT THEORIES, BUT SHOULD BE VIEWED AS AN ACQUISITION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PRACTIONAL SKILLS.
