Abstract
Over the years, the role of the police has shifted from a reactive perspective to a more systematic and objective analysis of community problems that oftentimes requires a partnership with the community. The author states that numerous studies indicate that police officers who have been exposed to training and the use of case study evaluations often select better and more effective solutions to criminal justice problems. This book provides police officers and other law enforcement officials with exposure to a variety of difficult situations through the use of case studies. It attempts to identify complex law enforcement situations that can offer opportunities for discussion and analysis. The cases are divided into 26 chapters, each associated with a corresponding letter of the police phonetic alphabet. The purpose of the cases is to improve the reader's skill in analyzing the situations and in making better decisions regarding the outcome. The book also includes the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics as adopted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Glossary, and appendix of selected resources and Web sites
